Dual Z-Wave Switch Module Box

Two independent Remotec relays in one custom-milled 2-gang metal enclosure. Control two circuits locally — and keep controlling them even when the internet goes down.

  • Two genuine Remotec ZFM-80US Z-Wave relays — two separate loads, independently controlled
  • Cover plate hand-milled in-house for a flush, finished fit — small-batch, made to order
  • Heavy-gauge metal junction box with multiple knockouts
  • Lever-nut connectors included — fast, tool-light wiring
  • Pairs with any Z-Wave hub, including Aeotec

Two smart circuits. One clean install.

Most "smart" switches quietly depend on your Wi-Fi and someone else's servers. The moment your router hiccups or a provider has an outage, they stop responding. This is the opposite of that.

Inside this custom-fabricated 2-gang box are two genuine Remotec Z-Wave switch relays, each wired to its own load. That's two separate lights, fans, or circuits you can switch, schedule, and automate independently — all riding on the rock-solid Z-Wave mesh instead of your Wi-Fi network.

We start with a heavy-gauge metal junction box with multiple knockouts for clean conduit or cable entry, then hand-mill the cover plate ourselves so both Remotec modules seat perfectly flush behind a factory-clean two-button face. This isn't a generic off-the-shelf part — each cover is machined to fit, small-batch and made to order, so you get a finished piece that looks intentional instead of a mess of loose modules crammed into a box.

The included lever-nut connectors make wiring fast and tool-light: lift, insert, close. Land your line, neutral, and loads, drop the modules in, and close it up. Already running a Z-Wave setup like an Aeotec hub? This pairs in seconds and shows up as two switches ready to drop into scenes, schedules, and automations.

Why Z-Wave beats Wi-Fi switches

This is the part that matters, so we'll be blunt. Wi-Fi switches route through your router and usually the manufacturer's cloud. When your Wi-Fi drops, your ISP goes down, or the vendor's servers have a bad day, your switches stop responding, your automations die, and sometimes even the wall button gets flaky. Z-Wave was built to avoid exactly that.

Z-Wave (this box)

  • Runs on its own dedicated mesh, separate from Wi-Fi
  • Hub runs automations locally — works with no internet
  • Every mains device repeats the signal; network self-heals
  • Better range through walls, low power, encrypted
  • Doesn't fight your phones, laptops, and streaming for bandwidth

Wi-Fi switches

  • Depend on your router and a manufacturer's cloud
  • Internet or ISP outage = switches stop responding
  • Compete with every other device on your Wi-Fi
  • More congestion and interference as you add devices
  • One vendor server hiccup can take your home offline

Here's the payoff: your hub keeps working even when the internet doesn't. With a local hub like an Aeotec, your scenes and automations run on the hub itself. Wi-Fi out? ISP dark for the whole neighborhood? Doesn't matter — these switches still respond and your schedules still fire. The internet only ever mattered for checking in from your phone while you're away, not for keeping the lights working at home. Wi-Fi is fine for a doorbell you check occasionally. It's the wrong tool for the switches that run your home.
